What Makes a Laptop Different?
A laptop is designed to provide a complete personal-computing experience in a compact device that can operate from battery power. Laptops range from lightweight systems designed for web browsing and office work to high-performance machines built for engineering, gaming, media production, software development, and other demanding tasks.

Limitations
Compared with many desktop systems, laptops may have fewer upgrade options, more tightly packed components, and greater dependence on thermal management. Repairs can also be more difficult because components may be integrated or soldered to the motherboard.
Choosing a Laptop
The best laptop is not necessarily the model with the highest specifications. A user should first identify the intended workload. Basic web browsing and document editing require less processing power than video editing, 3D modeling, virtual machines, or modern gaming. Port selection, display size, battery life, keyboard quality, weight, storage, memory, and operating-system compatibility should also be considered.
